Eoin (pronounced Owen) Colfer is the Irish author responsible for the Artemis Fowl phenomenon, novels that require reading skills far beyond the clientele of my library, but he has written three books about Will and his brothers which are very suitable for seven year olds especially as read-aloud serials. The first The Legend of Spud Murphy is a must for every librarian as Spud Murphy is a librarian. She has a gas-powered spud gun and scares children who visit the library. Wouldn't every librarian like one of those some days! Luckily not often, and the fun of this book and the following books about Will, The Legend of Captain Crow's Teeth and The Worst Boy in the World will entice children to read and keep reading until they are old enough to tackle Artemis Fowl on their own.
