18th November Margaret Atwood (1939) Jeremy Strong (1949)

Margaret Atwood is a Canadian author, poet and environmental activist. She is best known for her novels for adult readers, but she does write for children and two books that are in my library are Up in the Tree and Rude Ramsay and the Roaring Radishes. Up in the Tree is her first picture book and she chose to write, illustrate and had letter it. It tells the story of two children who make their home in a tree where they feel very free and happy until the ladder that they used to climb the tree is no longer there and they begin to wonder what they are missing. It is good for problem solving discussions.

Jeremy Strong is a British author who specialises in making children laugh. He writes for children about six to ten years old. He writes bridging novels as well, but his two popular series are one about Nicholas and his loopy family which already has eight books, including My Brother's Famous Bottom and another about a dog called Streaker who is known as The Hundred-Mile-An-Hour Dog, which has five books.
