Stories of the Chinese Zodiac is a wonderful series of books about each of the animals of the Chinese Zodiac. They are bilingual written in Chinese and English and they are illustrated by Chinese illustrator Li Jian.
I have tried to find out more about Li Jian but have not been very successful. All I have found is that Li Jian used to be a middle school art teacher, an editor for kid's books, and a partner in an illustration studio. Currently he owns his own illustration studio and is the author/illustrator of several books, including "The Water Dragon" and "The Little Monkey King's Journey", which means that he is the illustrator responsible for this series. Of course he has other books which are also bilingual that are biographies, folktales or Chinese landmarks to venture.
The series at school is popular with Chinese speaking parents because they can read the story in Chinese, but we find the books are borrowed by non-Chinese speakers as well. When I started purchasing them for the library they were not as expensive as they are now. Sourcing overseas publications, especially from America has become quite costly, however I do think these are a good investment, especially in a school with a large number of students who have Asian heritage.
