Laundry Day! A day to celebrate everything to do with washing and hanging out clothes in the wind to dry.
Quite a few children's books feature a picture of washing on a clothesline even when the book is not about washing clothes. I love it when Henry, a rooster removes red washing from the farmer's clothesline in order to create a fox in the brambles in Chris Wormell's story Henry and the Fox. Similarly the clothesline features in Aliens Love Underpants by Claire Freedman.
However there are books that do celebrate washing and clotheslines or laundry. See these preschool favourites:
• Washer and Dryer's Big Job by Steven Weinberg
• Henry Helps With Laundry by Beth Bracken
• Washing Line by Jez Alborough
• Doing the Washing by Sarah Garland
• When Dad Did the Washing by Ronda and David Armitage
• Mrs McNosh Hangs Up Her Wash by Sarah Weeks
• The Clothesline by Carolina May
For school;
• Underpants Thunderpants by Peter Bently
• The Day Jimmy's Boa Ate the Wash by Steven Kellogg
• Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems
• Mrs Mopple's Washing Line by Anita Hewett
• Laundry Day by Jessixa Bagley
Not really about laundry, but featuring clotheslines
• Clothesline Clues to Jobs People Do by Kathryn Heling
• Clothesline Clues to Sports People Play by Kathryn Heling
• Clothesline Clues to the First Day of School by Kathryn Heling
When I was at school we were constantly singing this song about Monday being washing day
Today's Monday, today's Monday, Monday is washing dayIs everybody happy? You bet your life we are!
Today's Tuesday, today's Tuesday, Tuesday is soup
Monday is washing day
Is everybody happy? You bet your life we are!
and so on through to Sunday.
