Pandemonium Day is observed on 14th July.
Children love the word pandemonium. It rolls off their tongues as if they use it every day.
If you look in a dictionary it says 'pandemonium' is a situation where there is a lot of noise and confusion, where there is wild disorder or an uproar, so obviously it is the noise component of the meaning that is important in the selection of it as the collective noun for parrots.
What then, I wonder is the difference between pandemonium, chaos and mayhem?
The dictionary says that 'chaos' is a state of total confusion and complete disorder.
The dictionary says that 'mayhem' is a situation in which there is little or no order or control, extreme disorder or chaos.
Maybe that is why so many children's books have one of these three words in their title. When I typed them into the title search in the library catalogue there were over one hundred books. What an easy display that would make! Go for it!
