24th January Peanut Butter Day

It is  Peanut Butter Day. Have you ever wondered where does peanut butter comes from? Well - it dates back to the Aztecs and Incas around 1000 BC. When it's homemade, peanut butter is a great source of vitamin E, B6, niacin, calcium, potassium and iron! It also contains protein and healthy monounsaturated fat. It is healthiest with no added sugar or salt.

There are so many children's books which have peanut butter in the title, but often it is a name for a character and not the spread. Also it often appears with Jelly as this is a favourite american combination.

3rd November Sandwich Day

Sandwich: Two delicious slices of bread hugging an array of mouth-watering ingredients, creating the perfect handheld meal to satisfy hunger cravings. 

This day commemorates the birth anniversary of John Montague, the fourth Earl of Sandwich, but really it celebrates sandwiches, their versatility and reasons we enjoy them.

It is easy to celebrate this day in our library. Find and read these books:

3rd November Sandwich Day

Sandwich Day is celebrated on this date because it is also the birth date of John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich for whom the food is named. This 18th century earl 'invented' the sandwich because he wanted to be able to eat using only one hand while he was involved in a 24hour gambling event. He instructed his servants to put his meat between two slices of bread. Now it is a favourite food has a myriad of fillings in many places, especially at lunchtime, in schoolyards and on picnics. One might even argue that a hamburger is a form of sandwich.

At school our library display will include the books below. The Giant Jam Sandwich  has become a classic, The Disgusting Sandwich is among the list of most borrowed books in our library and Daddy's Sandwich is a new acquisition.
