Library Lovers Day will be held on 14 February, the same day as Valentine's Day!
The day honours libraries and the amazing life-changing books they hold within them. Before you ask why libraries need to be celebrated, digest this fact — there was a time when libraries didn’t exist and sometimes listening to many school principals you wonder if a time will come when school libraries cease to exist. Library Lovers Day started in Australia at the State Library of NSW but has now spread worldwide.
Libraries should be hubs for discovery, learning, reading and a place where children explore a world of stories. Libraries everywhere keep communities and families connected.
So at school we celebrate it together with Valentines Day by displaying all the books we have about love or with 'love' in their title.
Here's some books about loving the library for very young children:
• Lola at the Library by Anna McQuinn & Rosalind Beardshaw
• Luna Loves Library Day by Joseph Coelho & Fiona Lumbers
• The Library by Sarah Stewart
• A Library Book for Bear by Bonnie Becker & Lady MacDonald Denton
• The Book Without a Story by Carolina Rabei
Here's some books with inspiring librarians who think 'outside the square':
• Carlo and the Really Nice Librarian by Jessica Spanyol
• Library Lion by Michelle Knudsen & Kevin Hawkes
• No Pirates Allowed! Said Library Lou by Rhonda Gowler Greene & Brian Ajhar
• Ronan the Librarian by Tara Luebbe, Becky Cattie & Victoria Maderna
• The Librarian's Stories by L.M. Falcone & Anna Wilson
Here's some books about real librarians who really made a difference
• Librarian on the Roof! A True Story by M.G. King & Stephen Gilpin
• Miss Moore Thought Otherwise by Jan Pinborough & Debby Atwell
• The Librarian of Basra by Jeanette Winter
• Planting Stories: the Life of Librarian and Storyteller Pura Belpre by Anika Aldamuy Denise & Paola Escobar

I love the library. I love YOUR library. I love this post about libraries and Library Lovers' Day. It is especially wonderful to see photos of your library. Congratulations on your wonderful work creating a magical place in your school for your young students and their lucky teachers. I desperately hope we never ever reach the day when school administrators or principals do not value the essential role a school library plays in the life of the children and the culture of the school.
