23rd April Slay a Dragon Day

23rd April is Slay a Dragon Day ,  the same day as St. George's Day, widely celebrated across Britain. The date is known as the anniversary of St George's death in 303 AD. The English flag consists of a red cross over a white background, which actually represents St. George's cross! The legend of Saint George and the Dragon tells the taming and slaying of a dragon that demanded human sacrifices every day in the town of Silene. As he visited the city, St. George saved a princess that was chosen to be sacrificed, and slayed the dragon. The locals converted to Christianity to show gratitude.

The day also highlights the importance of confronting what holds us back. Whether it’s a difficult task, a bad habit, or a fear, it motivates us to address and conquer it.

The idea is to foster a sense of bravery and achievement, helping individuals grow stronger and more confident.  It encourages a sharing stories of overcoming challenges, inspiring others to face their own “dragons.”

'Slay' is not a 'big' word, but it is a powerful word and a great word to know and to use metaphorically.

Today is a good day to revisit the story of St George and the Dragon. To do this:
