Today is Sally Ride's birthday. She was born on 26th March, 1951 and she died on 23rd July, 2012.
The first American woman in space, Sally Ride, is a role model for young people, particularly for girls and those interested in science and space. At the time of her first flight, Ride also was the youngest astronaut to ever travel in space, being just 32.
Dr Sally Ride was a physicist who wanted girls to know that science was for them too.
