'Wonderful' is not the adjective you think of when you think of wasps, but this book by Katrina German and Suzanne Houghton from the CSIRO certainly makes the reader think so. It is a beautiful book.
With over 12 000 species found in Australia, Wonderful Wasps brings the beauty and importance of native wasps to life, and reminds us that every creature matters in its own wonderful way.
Inside this book there is a page that describes just how the native wasps build their home. There are Teachers Notes here and activity sheets here on Suzanne Houghton's website.
There are not many books in the library about wasps. Look for:
Wasps by Margaret Hall has minimal text, but all the features of a good traditional non-fiction text.
• Bees and Wasps by James Maclaine
• Wasps and Bees by William Anthony
And although, not about wasps as builders, if it is a while since you shared The Giant Jam Sandwich by John Vernon Lord, there are plenty of wasps in this classic story.
