Jonathan Emmett is the author of many picture books, but here I want to highlight the four books about Mole, Squirrel, Hedgehog and Rabbit. See Bringing Down the Moon; No Place Like Home; The Best Gift of All and Diamond in the Snow. These four endearing characters feature in a set of stories about friends, weather, small daily occurrences and everydayness. There seems to be one for each season and they are illustrated by Vanessa Cabban. Although some might say the books are very English they are nevertheless popular with the Australian children and parents who frequent my library. Jonathan and Vanessa's newest production The Pig's Knickers is sure to be a hit too. Both of them have very comprehensive websites so check them out. You need to see how many facial expressions Jonathan can do in a minute!
